Ice Floor

I'm going to start this post with a disclaimer that no babies were actually injured in the filming of "Ice Floor." With that being said, let me explain what happened. We recently put a new floor in the kitchen and it's just a little more slick than our old one. Simultaneously (well, maybe a few months later), Paige started wearing her footed pajamas. Most footed pajamas have grippy feet, and these were no different. However, apparently over time the "grippiness" of the grippy feet diminishes, as you will see in the video...

Rocknoceros

I've been home with Paige for a grand total of 4 days now, and have already started to get creative with keeping her entertained. We do Mommy Bootcamp in the mornings (well, she sits in her stroller, I do bootcamp), she likes the pool for about 45 minutes at a time, and I have to make sure she's home for her 11:45 - 3:30 nap. I bought a water table for her to splash around in when we can't get to the pool...it was an excellent investment and I think she'll get a lot of use out of it. She probably would have enjoyed a bucket of water and a cup just as much, but I like the looks of the water table much more.

At the mall there is a weekly concert by a "band" called Rocknoceros and so we (I) decided to check it out today. It started at 11, precariously close to her nap time, but we went anyhow. Paige was surprisingly into it and we stayed for a grand total of about 7 minutes, the perfect amount of time at a kiddie rock concert. Paige danced a little and proved that she did indeed inherit Dave's and my dance skills...

Cast-Off, Cast-Away, Cast-Out

We were finally able to bid farewell to Paige's cast this week. She didn't exactly walk out of the doctors office, as we had thought she might, but instead decided to hang on to the gimp crawl for a little while longer as she regains confidence in her leg. Her skin is a tad bit dry (leather is probably silky smooth compared to Paige's leg right now), but nothing a little (lot) of lotion can't cure.

Following cast removal, Paige and I went straight to the outlet mall to get her some new socks (wearing only one sock for the past few weeks and me not even bothering to try to match them up after laundry has caused a few to go missing) and shoes. I think we're all pretty excited to have more than 5 pairs of pants that she can wear (the only ones that fit over the cast) again also. Maybe I can go back to biweekly laundry for her again...

Finally picked up the x-rays...

So if you look right below her knee, on the tibia, you can see the fracture. On the second picture, you see a little bump (the bump isn't supposed to be there).

Sleepless in Seattle

This week we're on the west coast visiting family and friends. First stop was Seattle, where we spent the day on Saturday watching people throw fish around. At the end of the day we went to the Space Needle. Unfortunately for everyone else who decided to go to the Space Needle that day, Paige had missed her nap.

The other great thing about the Space Needle is that it forces you to forget things when loading the car. For example, diaper bags. Below is the last documented sighting of our diaper bag.

Tough Break

We had our first major disaster in parenthood this week. I got the dreaded phone call at work that Paige was hurt. She had somehow twisted her ankle/leg in the beanbag chair at her babysitters house. Of course, since Paige has a high pain tolerance (something she most certainly did NOT inherit from me), she was able to go from inconsolable to happy by simply being put in a high chair with some goldfish. Her babysitter and I thought she might have a minor sprain. We knew she should be seen by a doctor, but didn't feel like there was a lot of urgency so I got an appointment for after school let out.

At the pediatrician, Paige was a little cranky, but nothing more than is expected at a doctors appointment in the middle of naptime. The doctor wanted us to get x-rays, so she directed us to the Fairfax Radiological Consultants: Inova Loudoun Imaging. They had to spend several minutes explaining to me that I was neither going to Fairfax Hospital or Loudoun Hospital, I was going to the Fairfax Radiology at Loudoun Hospital (which is actually at the Cornwall campus, not the hospital), which never made sense to me. Anyhow, the GPS guided me over to the bone photographer which was where Paige got her first hospital present, a mini rubber ducky! Apparently if you cry really hard during an x-ray, they reward you with a ducky. The two techs that took the pictures didn't let on that anything was wrong until they casually said, "The radiologist will want to talk to you, go ahead and wait in the waiting room for him," then one said to the other as I was walking out of the room, "yeah, I definitely see that..."

After the radiologist broke (pun intended) the bad news to me--fracture of the tibia--we were escorted to the ER where we had to wait, again. We were finally seen by the doctor and this is where Paige got her second hospital present of the day, a little teddy bear. They splinted her whole leg and then paraded all the doctors and nurses from the ER through her exam room to see the "cute little splinted leg." We were finally able to go home around 7 and were told to call the orthopedic surgeon in the morning to get a real cast.

Paige is handling everything as well as can be expected, but is extremely frustrated at her limited ability to move. She now has a cute little pink cast and she's able to maneuver herself around a little bit. Somehow I think this could delay her walking just a bit...

Puhsghetti Face

We decided to give Paige some spaghetti for dinner tonight. She loved it, as she seems to love all foods (except tofu). All was going well until we noticed the rash creeping up her belly. Paige, just like her mommy, has very sensitive skin and apparently the spaghetti run-off was irritating it.

So we took her straight up to the bathtub to scrub off the offending spaghetti.

Spaghetti will probably not be on Paige's menu until she is able to get over 50% of the food she brings towards her face in her mouth. She's not even close yet.

Baking Brownies

I guess I'll post on our website...since it's snowing....on a Saturday....again.

We rushed out to the grocery store this morning to get enough provisions to survive the storm. Basically we bought the ingredients for shepherds pie (cottage pie, if you are from England) and dog biscuits. The shepherds pie will be our dinner and the dog treats will ensure that Izzy goes outside in the snow and doesn't poop on our floor. She still hates snow (and cold, rain, etc) and must be bribed to do her business where she's supposed to during severe weather. Paige is using this day to show us all the gaps in our baby-proofing. Our baby-proofing is very similar to airport security, we have to keep updating and making changes to fix problems after they occur (instead of anticipating them). I have entertained myself by making homemade cinnamon brownies for our new neighbors. Since I decided to do this project after our morning run to the grocery store, I had to go back out to get some eggs, cocoa, vanilla and confectioners sugar to create the deliciousness.

To totally change the subject, I would like to discuss the latest hype over the "song" Pants on the Ground. For some reason this "song" really bothers me. I am shamelessly a fan of American Idol, but I really hate it when they do something like allow a 68 year old man to sing some stupid song during the audition show. I have a theory that the "song" was actually written by some American Idol exec to create a hype. Like, seriously, did a 68 year old man that is well out of the age range for the show really wait in line all day to audition? It doesn't bother me enough to make me stop watching Idol, I do love the show, but I don't buy into the whole Pants on the Ground movement. I want to become a non-fan of it on facebook, but they don't do non-fandom yet.
